Tour through Bolivia and Chile in 17 days: Journey of 18 days in the amazing countries of Bolivia and Chile. We visit the high plateau and its incredible landscapes, the Titicaca Lake, Copacabana, the world’s largest salt lake, lagoons of different colors, Bolivia’s capital Sucre and its crater Maragua, the mine of Potosi, Northern Chile including the driest desert of the world, the moon valley, and Miscanti lagoon.

Itinerary

Day 01: Arrival in La Paz
After your arrival in La Paz we will bring you to your hotel. Free afternoon.

Day 02: La Paz City Tour + Teleférico + Moon Valley
After breakfast, we visit the city of La Paz where we can appreciate its historical, and architectural culture. We visit the Murillo square, the Cathedral, the government palace, the church of San Francisco, the replica of the temple of Tiahuanacu, the lookout Quilli Quilli, the museum Costumbrista, the witch market where the local people buy all their necessary products for ceremonies or rituals like the Ch’alla as well as for their offers to Pachamama (mother earth). In the afternoon we visit the stunning moon valley in the South of La Paz passing through local quarters of the huge city.

Day 03: La Paz – Tiahuanaco – Copacabana.
Today we visit the archaeological complex of Tiahuanaco located close to the Titicaca Lake. We will visit the museum Litico and Cerámico, and the archaeological sites: The pyramid of Akapana, the semi-underground temple, Keri Kala, Putuni, Katantalita, the temple of Kalasasaya, the sun gate, etc. The guided tour takes around two and a half hours. After the tour we have lunch and head to South America’s largest lake.

Day 04: Copacabana - Isla del Sol – Copacabana
We will visit the sanctuary of Copacabana and take a boat to the Island of the Sun. We enjoy the great lake and its most beautiful island. In the evening a traditional dinner is included.

Day 05: Copacabana - La Paz
After breakfast we take a boat back to Copacabana and visit the baroque church Morisco de la Virgen de la Candelaria and the handicraft market. In the afternoon we travel back to La Paz where we spend the night.

Today is free to enjoy the beautiful city of La Paz.

Day 6: La Paz - Sucre. City Tour Sucre.
Today we take an early flight to Bolivias official capital Sucre. Without any doubt Sucre is one of the most beautiful cities in South America. We visit its lovely narrow streets, its old town including the many colonial churches. Sucre is also known as the white city of Bolivia. Its historic center offers a lot of colonial architecture of the past centuries. We visit the most attractive spots and the most important historic monuments, for example: the 25th May square, the Cathedral, the famous liberty house (where the declaration of independence was signed on the 6th August 1825), the museum, the lookout of La Recoleta (this place was used as a monastery, prison, and museum), and the church of San Francisco.

Day 7: Sucre - Trekking Crater Maragua
From Sucre we head to the crater of Maragua. We start a two-hour hike to the river Ravelo on an Incan trail. In the afternoon we arrive to the crater and visit a few local houses to watch the region’s famous webbing fabrics Jalq’a which are known as the best of Bolivia. We stay the night in touristic cottages.

Day 8: Trekking Crater Maragna – Sucre
The next day, we visit the dinosaur footprints in Ninu Mayu. The trail leads us to Potolo and Kollpa Kucho where our transport waits for us to bring us back to the capital city.

Day 9: Sucre: Visit Mercado de Tarabuco (only on Sundays!))
Tarabuco is a place located 64 kilometers outside of Sucre and is the center of the Yampara culture. Here the people still conserve previous traditions and rituals. On Sundays we visit the colorful market. The Yampara families head every Sunday to Tarabuco main sqaure from their rural communities to sell their local products. They change food, for example agricultural products, clothing, cattle, etc. Many of them arrive by bus or riding their cattle. The market starts early in the morning and around 3pm most of the vendors head back to their homes.

Day 10: Sucre - Yotala - Millares – Betanzos – Potosí
We will arrive to Potosi around noon. Here we will start with the visit of the Minero market called “Calvario”. After our visit, we continue our circuit to the silver mines where we observe the hard work of the miners winning the mineral manually like in past centuries.

Day 11: Potosí – Uyuni
Today we visit the beautiful colonial city of Potosi. Afterwards we travel to Uyuni and enjoy the train cemetery and the eyes of the salt lake. Night spend in the town of Uyuni.

Day 12: Uyuni - Salar de Uyuni: Tunupa – Colquesa
Today we have the chance to take stunning fotos of the white salt flat. Afterwards we climb the volcano Tunupa (5,200m) which explains the history of the salt lake. Tunupa was a woman who lost her sun and shed her tears of salt together with her milk. From the volcano we will enjoy incredible views on the Salar.

Day 13: Salar de Uyuni: Colquesa - Isla del Pescador - San Juan
After breakfast we have a few hours of free time until our tour starts. We will leave Uyuni at 11am in direction to the biggest salt desert of the world in a 4x4 vehicle. During the tour we will visit the village of Colchani where we will observe the intense activity of salt extraction in a beautiful form, the famous salt hotel, the fishermen’s island (Isla Incahuasi) which is located right in the middle of the salt flat. Then we will have lunch before we drive to our hostel in San Juan.

Day 14: San Juan - Laguna Colorada - Ojito de Perdiz
Today we continue our adventura to Villa Mar. On the journey we visit the active volcano Ollagüe, the lagoons of Canapa, and Hedionda. At midday we will have lunch. Later we pass the desert before we arrive in Villa Mar which is situated in the national park Fauna Andina Eduardo Avaroa. We will see the stone tree and the desert of Siloli. We stay the night close to Laguna Colorada. Our accommodation is very basic but includes private bathrooms.

Day 15: Villa Mar - Laguna Colorada - Laguna Verde - San Pedro de Atacama
Today we have to get up very early in the morning as our tour starts at 4am to appreciate the geysers “Sol de Manana”. After this spectacle we head to the thermal baths of Polques where we have our breakfast. Afterwards two incredible lagoons are waiting for us: The white and the green lagoon that are situated on the foot of the volcano Licincabur. We stay the night in San Pedro de Atacama in Chile.

Day 16: San Pedro: Archaeological Tour and Moon Valley
In the morning we will visit Pukará de Quintor, a fortress constructed in 1536 which was invaded by the Spanish. We also visit the Cordillera and the Quebrada, two lookout points. Our excursion continues to San Pedro de Atacama. In the afternoon we head to the moon valley where we visit the salt statues “Las tres Marias”, the salt mine, the lookout point, the salt caves to finally watch the sunset on the great sand dune.

Day 17: Flight: Calama – Santiago de Chile
Transfer to the airport in Calama and flight to Chile’s capital Santiago.
