Lima to Rio de Janeiro Tour 23 days

Our journey starts in Lima and ends via Cusco, Machu Picchu, Sacred Valley, Lake Titicaca, Copacabana, La Paz, Salar de Uyuni, Laguna Colorada, San Pedro de Atacama, Mendoza, Buenos Aires and Iguazu in Rio de Janeiro. Within 23 days you get to know a large part of South America.

Itinerary

Day 1: Lima

Welcome to South America! We pick you up from the airport and check in to our hotel for the night. Depending on when you arrive, you can start to explore the city.

 

Day 2: Lima – Cusco

In the morning we take a flight to Cusco. After we checked into the hotel, we have time to relax and get used tot he height. In the afternoon we will start the city tour where we will visit the Plaza de Armas, the Cathedral Coricancha and other attractions. The rest oft the day is at leisure to enjoy the atmosphere of this unique city.

 

Day 3: Cusco – Ollantaytambo – Valle Sagrado – Aguas Calientes

Today we start a trip to get to know the Sacred Valley (Valle Sagrado) with the typical terraces of Inca period and villages Pisac and ist colorful Indian Market (Calca, Yucay, Urubamba). After lunch we visit Ollantaytambo where we can see big rock walls, temples and palaces. We stay today at a hotel in Aguas Calientes at the foot of Machu Picchu.

 

Day 4: Aguas Calientes – Machu Picchu – Cusco

Using a bus we climb up to Machu Picchu, one oft he Seven Wonders oft the World. We will spend about three hours, among other things, hearing the history of the Inca Site explained by a guide. In the afternoon we return by train to Cusco.

 

Day 5: Cusco – Puno

After breakfast we head by bus on the way to Puno. We stop at places like Andahuaylillas, Raqchi and Pucara before we finally reach Puno.

 

Day 6: Puno – Lake Titicaca – Uros – Island Amantani

Today we will have an unforgetable excursion at the Lake Titicaca tot he Uros Islands. We will get to know the local life, which didn’t change a lot with time. Then we will visit the Island of Amantani where we will spend the night in the house of one oft the residents.

 

Day 7: Island Amantani – Taquile – Puno

After breakfast we continue our journey to the island of Taquile where we get to know the development of weaving the residents for generations witnessed. Overnight in Puno.

 

Day 8: Puno – Copacabana – La Paz

Today we take a touristic bus to get to La Paz. We pass the border with Bolivia in Copacabana. Overnight in La Paz.

 

Day 9: La Paz – Valle de la Luna – optional: Death Road

Today we take a trip to the Moon Valley (Valle de la Luna); an impressive place with reddish rock formations. We will also visit the „Market of the Witches“. Optional you have the possibility to visit the death Road today. This trip includes a bike ride on the „most dangerous road in the world“ (in fact its not that dangerous).

 

Day 10: La La Paz – Uyuni

Our way from La Paz to Uyuni takes about 11 hours and is carried by train. We have the opportunity to observe the magnificent scenery that changes along the way. Trains only operate on Tuesdays and Fridays, so if there is no train we take the local bus. Overnight in Uyuni.

 

Day 11: Salar de Uyuni

This day we spend in the largest salt desert in the world. In Colchani we get to know how the salt is obtaines and processed and we visit a hotel made entirely from salt. Then we visit the Island Inkahuasi that is almost completely overgrown with cacti. Here we will have lunch. Overnight in a simple Hostal in Chuivica.

 

Day 12: Laguna Colorada

We continue our journey towards Laguna Colorada. On the way we pas the Stone Forest with its famous „Arbol de Piedra“, the active volcano Ollagüe and a variety of lagoons harboring flamingos and other wildlife. We will stay in a simple accommodation near the Laguna Colorada at an altitude of 4300m above sea level.

 

Day 13: Laguna Colorada – San Pedro de Atacama

Today we head towards San Pedro de Atacama behind the Chilean border. On the way we stop at the geysers „Sol de manana“ on 5000m above sea level and at hot springs where we can relax. At around 13:30 we will reach San Pedro de Atacama, a town surrounded by one of the driest deserts in the world.

 

Day 14: San Pedro de Atacama – Valle de la Luna

In the morning we start the journey towards Pukara Quitor. Here we visit a fortress and ruins dating back to 1536. We have a spectacular view of the Cordillera Real and Quebrada. In the afternoon we visit another Moon Valley. Overnight again in San Pedro de Atacama.

 

Day 15: San Pedro de Atacama – Calama – Santiago de Chile – Mendoza

Early in the morning we start to Calama (100Km) to take the flight to Santiago de Chile. From here we continue with another flight to Mendoza.

 

Day 16 & 17: Mendoza

The following two days will be spent in Mendoza. We will make different trips and city tours.

Half-Day Bodegas: visit famous wine houses and Botique wineries, tastings of wine and visit an olive oil factory

Canopy: An adventurous experience, ride a funicular over the Arentine landscape.

 

Day 18: Mendoza – Buenos Aires

Today we take our flight to Buenos Aires where we have the rest of the day/afternoon of free time. In the evening we visit a tango show – „an unforgettable experience of Argentina“.

 

Day 19: Buenos Aires

In the morning we will make a city tour; visit the Plaza de Mayo, the Cathedral and other sights. The rest of the day is at leisure.

 

Day 20: Buenos Aires – Puerto Iguazu

Today we will take our flight to Iguazu. The rest of the day is at leisure.

 

Day 21: Iguazu – Cataratas (Argentinan side)

Today we visit the Iguazu Falls on the Argentinian side. These beautiful waterfalls surrounded by lush subtropical forest were declared as World Heritage by UNESCO. The diversitiy of flora and fauna, the ferns, orchids, begonias, birds and butterflies is amazing.

 

Day 22: Iguazu – Cataratas (Brazilian side)

After breakfast we visit the Iguazu Falls on the Brazilian side. This tour takes place in Brazilian terrain, some visitors may require a visa.

 

Day 23: Iguazu – Rio de Janeiro

Today we take the flight to Rio de Janeiro.
